Matata Blue Light Summer Holiday Programme

Matata Blue Light Ventures held a three week summer holiday programme which was a huge success and enjoyed by all who participated.

The programme started with a trip to Royden Downs where there was a 7 km walk through farmland and native bush with swings from trees and continuing along a beautiful cooling stream which was just what the doctor ordered on such a hot day.

A trip to the Kawerau Town Pools proved popular with a relaxing swim to cool off and a sausage sizzle to fill the gap.

We went on a day out to the Amazin Maize’n Maize was a great experience with 22 local children attending.  Only one team got lost and had to be directed out and after lunch it was time for a swim which was well deserved. Thank you Amazin Maize’n Maize.

Matata Blue Light held it’s very own sandcastle/sculpting competition with some great sand creations and an impressive turn out.

This was a day of sun, sand and surf and was just the ticket to bring children and adults together to enjoy the holidays and show off their creative skills. There spot prizes and another sausage sizzle yum.

Unfortunately a family evening with Kayaking, beach volleyball, a BBQ and much more at Lake Rotoma had to be postponed as the weather was not too good.  This event will be happening at a later date so look out for the advertising of it.

A family fishing day at the Matata Domain was a great day to cast your line out, relax and wait for the big one.  Even with the help and expertise from some local gentle men who were helping out on the day, we could only catch a couple of crabs.  Never mind every one enjoyed themselves and had not fish for lunch but sausages with bread and hot chips.

Wednesday was another day of summer fun with 17 Matata children attending the Pool Party at the Whakatane Aquatic Centre. Everyone enjoyed the Pool Party and lunch down the Heads.

A big thank you  must go out to the Matata Older and Bolder Fishermen, Aunties Café for there continued support, and most of all the children of Matata who made a fantastic positive impression every were they went.   You were all fabulous and we are proud of you all.

Thank you and if you have any queries please don’t hesitate to phone or email me
