Matata Blue light had yet another fantastic action holiday programme organised for the local youth.

The first week of the holidays was set for a full on week of fishing, bush walking, swimming and a paint out...

Monday - Stuart from the Whakatane Great Outdoors kindly came out to show our youth how to prepare their rods ready for a great days fishing the following day.

Tuesday - That morning the kids woke to beautiful sunshine and a calm, flat sea ideal for their fishing competition at the Matata Domain Beach.  Great fun was had by all with a few children receiving prizes for their catches during the day.  Winners were 1st prize, Brayden McCauley for reeling in a kahawai, 2nd equal were Troy Watson, Ngakete Hartley and Shannon Rau and for their spectacular crabs!  Good work boys and a big thumbs up to all the other children and adults that participated.  Also a very big thank you to the Matata Older and Bolder men that came along to help on the day and the Whakatane Great Outdoors for supplying the spot prizes, your support was greatly appreciated!

Wednesday - Unfortunately the sun decided to stay in bed that day so the Bush Walking and Paint Out were cancelled due to wet weather.

Friday - Shelly and her team of helpful helpers took a couple of van loads of youth to Kawerau to enjoy a day out at the Swimming Pools.  They joined the Kawerau Blue light for a fun-filled day of swimming and bbq'ing!

The second week of the holidays, Matata Blue Light took part with Kawerau Blue light in a Snow Camp at Whakapapa.  We had 18 youth from Matata participate in the 5 day trip leaving on the Monday and returning on the Friday.  From the stories and memories the kids have shared, it was an awesome trip enjoyed by everyone!  Here’s the itinerary they followed on their journey...
